A conveyance device 2 that holds a sheet medium 26 in a roll 25 and includes: a drive roller 29 that feeds the sheet medium 26 from the roll 25 to a conveyance path 33; a roll rotating unit 36 that rotates the roll 25 and rewinds the fed sheet medium 25, and has a plurality of drive modes with different speeds of rotation; and a control unit 22 that controls driving the drive roller 29 and the roll rotating unit 36, wherein when starting a conveyance operation that rewinds the sheet medium 26, the control unit 22 selects the drive mode to be used in the conveyance operation from among the plural drive modes based on the conveyance distance the sheet medium 26 is to be conveyed in the conveyance operation and the diameter of the roll 25. |
