PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high-capacity negative electrode for nonaqueous electrolytic secondary battery use which has good cycle characteristics.SOLUTION: A negative electrode for nonaqueous electrolytic secondary battery use comprises a current collector and an active material layer on the current collector. The active material layer includes at least granules and a binding agent (other than polyimide, polybenzoimidazole, polyamide imide and polyamide) for coating. Each granule includes at least an active material particle and a binding agent for granulation. The active material particle consists of a nanometer-size particle containing elements A and D which are selected from particular element groups respectively. The nanometer-size particle has at least a first phase made of an elementary substance of the element A or a solid solution thereof, and a second phase made of a compound of the elements A and D. The first and second phases are bonded with each other through an interface.
