The invention relates to a condition monitoring system for a network of distributed devices (10), the system including at least one portable communication device (26) and at least one central control server (12), wherein each of the devices (10) is provided with a monitoring unit (20) for receiving and processing the condition data from at least one sensor (18) and with a communication link (22) between the monitoring unit (20) and the central control server (12). The central control server (12) is configured to store the condition data in combination said identification data. It is proposed to provide the monitoring unit (20) with a communication interface (24) for connecting the portable communication device (26) to the monitoring unit (20) and to provide the portable communication device (26) with a scanning device (30) for scanning a computer-readable code (28) provided on the or next to the monitoring unit (20).
