The method involves determining the fuel- or energy amount present in the energy store, and determining the energy consumption of the motor vehicle based on vehicle parameters. A route is determined, along which the mo`tor vehicle is driven. The influence of the traffic flow, which lies ahead of the motor vehicle on the route, on the energy consumption is implied in the calculation of the range. The speed data is received from a central computer.
