PURPOSE: An air conditioner for an electric vehicle is provided to compensate the internal temperature of a vehicle by increasing the amount of indoor recirculating air by adjusting the opening degree of an intake door when the mode of the vehicle changes into sleep mode due to the shortage of a battery. CONSTITUTION: An air conditioner for an electric vehicle comprises an intake door(12), an electric compressor(16a), and a controller(60). The intake door controls the opening degree of an indoor air inlet(12b). The electric compressor is driven in normal mode or sleep mode depending on the charging amount of a battery. In sleep mode, the RPM of the electric compressor is reduced. The controller adjusts the opening degree of the intake door depending on the reduced RPM of the electric compressor so that the internal temperature deviation of the vehicle can be compensated.
