摘要 The present application generally relates to a diesel engine and, more particularly, to a control system and method for an exhaust aftertreatment system for a locomotive diesel engine. In accordance with an embodiment of the present system, a two-stroke uniflow scavenged diesel engine system including an exhaust aftertreatment system is described for reducing NOX emissions and achieving desired fuel economy. More specifically, a system and method for controlling the exhaust aftertreatment system is provided. The present system being adapted to monitor and control select components of the exhaust aftertreatment system. Specifically, the control system may be adapted to control select components of an exhaust aftertreatment system to adaptively regulate filtration based on various operating conditions of the locomotive.

An exhaust aftertreatment system for reducing emissions in exhaust expelled from an engine of a locomotive, the exhaust aftertreatment system comprising: a manifold adapted to receive exhaust from the locomotive engine, a burner coupled to the engine for heating at least a portion of the exhaust entering the manifold, a valve for regulating the amount of exhaust delivered to the burner, wherein said manifold is sized and shaped to promote mixing of the exhaust from the locomotive engine and the portion of heated exhaust from the burner, a filtration system coupled to the manifold including a catalyst and a filter adapted to filter particulate matter from the exhaust, a DOC/DPF doser configured to add a select amount of fuel to the mixture of exhaust from the locomotive engine and the portion of heated exhaust from the burner, and wherein the fuel and exhaust mixture reacts with oxygen in the presence of the catalyst to promote oxidation of soot on the filter, a controller configured to monitor exhaust temperature at the filtration system, said controller being coupled to the valve for adaptively controlling a select volume of exhaust to be delivered to the burner and being coupled to the burner for adaptively heating such select volume of exhaust to a select temperature in response to monitored exhaust temperature values at the filtration system for adaptive temperature regulation thereof, wherein regulation of exhaust temperature at the filtration system promotes oxidation of the filter, such that health of the filter is maintained and emissions are reduced.
