PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus which prevents an abnormal image, such as a white dot, from being formed, while reducing variability in belt characteristics.SOLUTION: An image forming apparatus uses an intermediate transfer belt. The intermediate transfer belt has a peripheral length of 2000 mm or more and a drive linear velocity of 350 mm/sec or more, and is formed by laminating two polyimide resin layers formed by dispersing a conductive agent. The layers are formed of the same material. The ratio of polyimide resin contained is the same as that of the conductive agent. When a common logarithm value of surface resistivity &rgr;ut&OHgr;/square) obtained when 500 V is applied and measured from an outer circumferential side surface of the intermediate transfer belt is L&rgr;uta common logarithm value of surface resistivity &rgr;nobtained when 500 V is applied and measured from an inner circumferential side surface of the belt is L&rgr;nand a common logarithm value of volume resistivity &rgr;(&OHgr;cm) obtained when 100 V is applied is L&rgr;, L&rgr;n10.00-12.00, L&rgr;utL&rgr;n0.25, and L&rgr;utL&rgr;<1.50 are satisfied. Surface roughness Ra of the inner peripheral surface is 0.20-0.40 μm. |
