A water pump 10 for renovating a used water pump assembly comprises: a cylinder 14 and a piston assembly 12 for reciprocal movement in the cylinder 14. The piston assembly 12 comprises a plurality of inter-fitting piston rings 18 which are urged together by a tie bar 22 and brackets 24. The piston assembly 12 further comprises a plunger valve 36 configured to allow fluid to pass therethrough during reciprocating movement in a first direction, and to prevent passage of fluid through during reciprocating movement in a second direction, opposite the first direction. The water pump 10 further comprises a foot valve 40 mounted in one end of the cylinder 14 and configured to allow fluid to pass therethrough into the cylinder during reciprocating movement of the body 12 in the first direction. |
