An image forming apparatus is disclosed. The image forming apparatus includes a scanning unit which generates a scan image by scanning a manuscript; an image processing unit which senses a symbol area in the generated scan image, determines a specific color of the sensed symbol area, and making the outline of the sensed symbol area a vector; a rendering unit which generates a raster image for the scan image by using the determined specific color and the outline vector for the sensed symbol area; and an image forming unit which prints the generated raster image.
