PURPOSE: A nonlinear optical glass is provided to have a low dispersive property simultaneous with a big nonlinear coefficient by adding an appropriate amount of alkali metal oxides or/and alkali earth metal oxides in a basic glass composition which contains heavy metal oxides. CONSTITUTION: A nonlinear optical glass contains (a) total 20-80 mol% of one or more selected among SiO2, GeO2, B2O3, P2O5 and TiO2; (b) 8-70 mol% of Bi2O3; and (c) total 0.5-20 mol% of one or more selected among Na2O, Li2O, and K2O. The nonlinear optical fiber additionally contains one group or more of additives selected from the following conditions; (i) the same amount or less than 20 mol% per each composition of one or more selected among ZnO, SnO, TeO2, Ta2O5, and La2O3; (ii) the same or less than 25 mol% per each composition of one or more selected among Al2O3, Ga2O3, and In2O3; and (iii) the same or less than 10 mol% of one or more selected among CeO2, Sb2O3, and As2O3. The optical fiber contains a core and a clad. The core is composed of a nonlinear optical glass material and the clad has a refractive index lower than that of the core. |
