PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device and method for diagnosis of a sliding condition of a rotary electric machine which can detect abnormal slide at an early stage with a simple structure having a high degree-of-freedom of arrangement and reduce a stop period and maintenance cost of the rotary electric machine.SOLUTION: The device for diagnosis of a sliding condition of a rotary electric machine includes: a light source incident on a surface sliding against a collector brush on a surface of a rotator of the rotary electric machine; a light-receiving unit for receiving a reflected light from the sliding surface; and a determination unit for processing a signal from the light-receiving unit; the determination unit detecting an increase of a specific wavelength component of the reflected light and determining abnormality of a sliding condition on the surface of the rotator of the rotary electric machine.
