Compounds of formula R1R2R3SiOR wherein R is residue of a mono-hydric phenol or, together with R3, represents the divalent residue of a dihydric phenol; and each R1, R2 and R3 is an aliphatic, cycloaliphatic, aryl or hydrocarboxy group, are prepared by reacting the appropriate aromatic hydroxy compound, with a compound selecte from <FORM:1082693/C3/1> <FORM:1082693/C3/2> <FORM:1082693/C3/3> <FORM:1082693/C3/4> wherein n is an integer. The reaction is preferably effected in the presence of an alkali-metal salt of the phenol reactant. The silazanes I to III and the amino silane IV may be prepared by reacting ammonia with a di- or mono-halosilane, respectively. Specified R1, R2 and R3 radials are alkyl, cycloalkyl, alkenyl, mono-and poly-cyclic aryl, alkoxy, alkenyloxy and aryloxy radials. The group R may contain one or more halogen, ether, esterified carboxyl, keto, amino or cyano-groups; specified groups are those derived from 2,21-dihydroxy-diphenyl and pentachlorophenol, but others are exemplified. Where R1 and R2 are C1- 4 alkoxy groups in the product these groups may be replaced by C8- 22 alkoxy, aralkoxy, or aryloxy groups by reaction with the corresponding alcohol or phenol. |
