PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a novel optical element which has a satisfactory antireflection function for light in a desired use wavelength range of a visible region.SOLUTION: The optical element has an incidence surface 12 and an emission surface 16, and at least one of the incidence surface and the emission surface is planar and is formed of a transparent material having refractive indexes nS and nL for light at wavelengths λS and λL respectively, and an antireflection structure comprising a micro-relief structure is formed on at least planar surfaces of the incidence surface and the emission surface. In the micro-relief structure constituting the antireflection structure, an average distance P between micro-structures satisfies condition (1) and parameters mS and ML satisfying conditions (2) and (3), an average height H of micro-structures, the wavelengths λS and λL, and the refractive indexes nS and nL satisfy condition (4). |
