The volume efficiency correction coefficient Kv necessary for calculating the amount of air taken into the cylinder by using the response delay model of the intake system, is calculated by using the intake air amount Qa, an intake manifold density &rgr;b, and an intake manifold density variation &Dgr;&rgr;b.
