PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light-emitting element which can form beams and control a radiation direction by the light-emitting element alone.SOLUTION: A light-emitting element 1 comprises: a light-emitting layer 10 between an n-type semiconductor layer 20 and a p-type semiconductor layer 30; and a plurality of dielectric columnar parts 41 and 42 which are formed on the n-type semiconductor layer 20 or on the p-type semiconductor layer 30 and composed of transparent dielectrics having a dielectric constant smaller than that of each of the n-type semiconductor layer 20 and the p-type semiconductor layer 30, for functioning as a waveguide of light generated in the semiconductor light-emitting layer 10. The plurality of dielectric columnar parts 41 and 42 are arranged on the n-type semiconductor layer 20 or on the p-type semiconductor layer 30 in an annular manner, and include a first column group composed of at least one dielectric columnar part 41 having the same height with the other dielectric columnar part 41 and a second column group composed of at least one dielectric columnar part 42 having the height different from that of the dielectric columnar part 41 composing the first column group and having the same height with the other dielectric columnar part 42. |
