A process for photopolymerising a photopolymerisable compound having at least one ethylenically unsaturated double bond, comprises contacting said photopolymerisable compound with a photoactive oxide and irradiating it, wherein the photoactive oxide includes one or more moieties together with a moiety wherein there are at least 2 atoms between moiety I and moiety II in the additive and where X represents an oxygen or sulphur atom. Novel compounds which exhibit beneficial effects on cure in the presence of oxygen, which may be especially advantageous when LEDs are used, are also described.
