PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display element which can reduce the electrode exposure by a simple structure.SOLUTION: A TN type, and negative display type liquid crystal display element includes: a first substrate and a second substrate facing each other; a liquid crystal layer which is located between the first substrate and the second substrate; a first polarizer which is located on the opposite side of the liquid crystal layer side of the first substrate; and a second polarizer which is located on the opposite side of the liquid crystal layer side of the second substrate to face the first polarizer. The first substrate and the first polarizer are located on the observer side than the liquid crystal layer, a long axis (F rubbing axis 13a) direction of a liquid crystal molecule 31 at a position adjacent to the first substrate and an absorption axis (F absorption axis 41) direction of the first polarizer substantially match to each other, and an absolute value of difference between a refraction index in the long axis direction and a refractive index in a direction orthogonal to the long axis direction in the liquid crystal layer is 0.15 or more and 0.25 or less. |
