PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a steel type identification apparatus capable of safely applying a fluorescent X-ray analyzing device to a final inspection, packing and shipping process of a manufacturing line for steel material, and identifying the type of a steel material in an in-line manner with high precision.SOLUTION: There is provided a steel type identification apparatus which is configured to identify the type of a columnar or cylindrical steel material 1, the steel type identification apparatus including analyzing means 2 comprising an X-ray generator which irradiates the steel material 1 with X rays and an X-ray detector which detects fluorescent X rays emitted by the steel material 1, X-ray shield means 3 including the analyzing means 2, having a steel material insertion opening 11, and preventing X rays from leaking out, rotating means 4 for rotating the steel material 1 on an axis when the steel material 1 is irradiated with the X rays, deflection suppressing means 5 for suppressing variation in distance between the steel material 1 and the analyzing means 2 during the rotation of the steel material 1, and arithmetic means for identifying the steel type from an X-ray intensity obtained by the analyzing means 2. |
