PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a display device which can reduce a flicker of a display due to a change of display luminance without lowering responsibility of adjustment of the display luminance, and a control method of the display device.SOLUTION: A display device (a HUD device) 1 comprises a luminous display (a display) 20 capable of changing display luminance, illuminance detection means (a photo sensor) 70 for detecting illuminance in a periphery, and control means 80 for adjusting the display luminance of the luminous display 20 in accordance with an illuminance value calculated based on a detection result of the illuminance detection means 70. The control means 80 operates to determine that an illuminance change is not caused in the case where a difference in absolute value between an illuminance value at this time and an illuminance value upon preceding determination is smaller than a predetermined threshold level, to determine that the illuminance change is caused in the case where the difference in absolute value between the illuminance at this time and the illuminance value upon the preceding determination is equal to or larger than the predetermined threshold level, and to adjust the display luminance of the luminous display in accordance with the illuminance value at this time in the case where it is continuously determined a first number of times that the illuminance change is caused. |
