The method involves applying energy on a coining region (7) of a workpiece (1) and an embossing structure (10) which is formed on an embossing portion (2) adjacent to the coining region, from a power supply unit (4). The workpiece having the coining region and the embossing portion having the embossing structure are pressed together. The stamping of the embossing structure into the coning region of workpiece is performed. The embossing portion is made of metal, glass, silicon compound and/or silicon. An energy absorbent layer (3) is made of thermoplastic elastomer. An independent claim is included for a workpiece.
