The device (10) has a movable shoe (16) including a distal end intended to cooperate with a side of a wheel and a proximal end. A remote control unit (20) controls swiveling of the shoe from a rest position toward a braking position, where the device is arranged to be mounted on a bicycle such that an axis is placed approximately parallel to the side. The distal end cooperates with the side in the braking position such that a longitudinal direction of the shoe is directed opposite to a rotation direction of the wheel when the bicycle runs forwards.
