PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable efficiently discharge of the accumulated developer.SOLUTION: There is provided a developing device which comprises: a developing roller 42 which forms a latent image by attaching toner T to the latent image of a photoreceptor 2; a supply roller which comes into contact with the developing roller 42 to supply the toner to the developing roller 42; and a motor for rotationally driving the developing roller 42 and the supply roller 44, and the developing roller 42 moves from above to below in the direction of gravitational force (arrow B direction) and the supply roller 44 moves from below to above in the direction of gravitational force (arrow C direction) at a part &bgr; where the developing roller 42 and the supply roller 44 come in contact with each other during the operation to attach the toner T to the photoreceptor 2. The supply roller 44 is driven in a direction opposite to the moving direction (arrow C direction).
