PURPOSE: A transmission and reception apparatus in an FM-UWB communication system to reduce power consumption controls modulator and the demodulator to operate when a pulse signal is inputted, and thereby power consumption can be reduced. CONSTITUTION: An edge detector (31) produces a predetermined pulse signal at each generation time of edges of digital signal indicating transmission data. FSK (frequency shift keying) modulator (32) outputs a modulated signal wherein the digital signal is modulated with different frequencies according to the digital signal's value. A FM frequency modulator (33) outputs a modulated signal wherein the modulated signal is modulated with different waveforms according to a modulated signal's frequency outputted from the FSK modulator in sections where the produced pulse signal is present. In the rest sections of the sections where the pulse signal is present, power supply to the FM modulator is blocked.
