PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new method for measuring the activity of an enzyme whose substrate is insoluble or poorly soluble to water.SOLUTION: A method for measuring the activity of an enzyme includes depositing a prescribed amount of the enzyme on a part of a surface of a gel in which at least a part of dispersoid is the substrate of the enzyme, measuring dents formed on the gel surface by the action of the enzyme, and calculating the activity of the enzyme based on the measurement results and the prescribed amount, wherein the measurement of the dents formed on the gel surface is obtained by measuring the shape and volume of the dents, measuring the change in the light transmittance of the gel associated with the formation of the dents, or measuring the change in the optical reflectance of the gel surface associated with the formation of the dents.
