PURPOSE: A transmission is provided to have nine or more speeds, two planetary gear sets, a planetary gear set assembly, and a plurality of torque transmitting devices, thereby improving efficiency and responsiveness. CONSTITUTION: A planetary gear set assembly includes a first sun gear member (14A), a second sun gear member (16A), ring gear members (14N,16B), and planetary carrier members (14C, 16C). One (18) a plurality of the planetary gear sets includes a sun gear member (18C), a ring gear member (18A), and a planetary gear carrier member (18B). The other (20) of the plurality of planetary gear sets includes a sun gear member (20A), a ring gear member (20C), and a planetary gear carrier member (20B). Torque transmitting devices include clutches (24,26,28) and brakes (30,32,34) that are actuated in combinations of two to establish a plurality of forward speed ratios and one reverse speed ratio. An input member (12) is continuously connected to an engine or a turbine of a torque converter. An output member (22) is continuously connected to a final drive unit or a transfer case. |
