A tidal power generator collects water in a reservoir which can move up and down. The level of the empty reservoir is maintained by springs. The reservoir is connected to the sea by a flexible air-tight pipe that is submerged in water in the reservoir at low tide level. As the tide rises, water fills the container/reservoir, and the weight of water pushes the container down which pulls a weight up by a hydraulic, pneumatic or mechanical e.g. pulley system. The weight is then connected to a power generator to produce electricity. Constant output can be maintained by a hydraulic mechanism. When the tide goes down, the water leaves the container through the air-tight pipe under siphon effect, and the container rises up to its initial level under spring force. |
