PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a radiation detector that depletes a whole substrate, reduces a diffusion layer capacity, and enables fast detection with high sensitivity, and an operation method thereof.SOLUTION: A radiation detector comprises an I layer 11 composed of a silicon substrate or the like, a P type diffusion layer 12 provided on a first face of a substrate, an island-shaped N type diffusion layer 13 provided in the center of a second face of the substrate, and a gate electrode 14 formed over the whole area of the second face of the substrate so as to surround the N type diffusion layer 13 with a gate insulator 15 being interposed therebetween. |
