PURPOSE: A liquid crystal display device is provided to control arrangement of liquid crystal molecular arranged at the edge of the liquid crystal display device, by generating vertical electric field between a first a signal electrode formed at the edge of a first substrate and a second light shielding pattern formed at the edge of a second substrate. CONSTITUTION: A first light shielding pattern(181a) is formed in a lattice form on a second substrate(180), and shields a gate line, a data line(130) and a thin film transistor of each sub pixel corresponding to a first substrate(102). A second light shielding pattern(181b) shields a non-display area including a number of dummy pixels. Liquid crystal molecules are driven in a display area.
