<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging apparatus and an image recording method which can improve accuracy of focus on a moving subject using a contrast autofocus (AF) method. <P>SOLUTION: The imaging apparatus includes: an imaging element 103; a focus control unit which controls wobbling operation for moving a focus lens 154, provided in an imaging optical system, to each lens position; a focus evaluation value calculation unit which calculates, based on an image taken at each lens position, a focus evaluation value corresponding to each lens position; and a recording control unit which controls recording of an imaged image to a recording unit. The focus control unit calculates, based on a focus evaluation value, a focus lens position at which focus is achieved on a subject image, so as to perform drive control for moving the focus lens to the focus lens position.
