Rubber (natural or synthetic) is adhered to a textile material by providing at the interface resorcinol and a 1-azo-3, 7-dioxabicyclo [3.3.0] octane, after which the whole assembly is vulcanised and the two components reacted. The textile material may be of cellulose (native or regenerated) or of a synthetic linear polyamide and may comprise cords or woven fabrics. The resorcinol and bicyclo octane derivative may be applied direct to the textile or may be incorporated in the rubber stock. The textile material may also undergo conventional "solutioning" treatments. In examples the bicyclo octane derivatives used are 1-azo-5-methyl-5-ethyl-, and 5-methylol-3, 7-dioxabicyclo [3.3.0] octane. |
