摘要 A motor vehicle brake booster system 1 comprises a brake booster 3, two separate negative-pressure generators 23, 25 and a negative-pressure sensor 9. One of the negative-pressure generators 23 can be operated by an electric motor and serve as an electric vacuum pump. Another of the negative pressure generators 25 can be driven by the internal combustion engine of the vehicle and generate a negative pressure by tapping at a throttle valve, or by a mechanical vacuum pump. In addition to the negative pressure acting in the brake booster 3, measured by sensor 9, in each case the operating state in each of the negative-pressure generators 23, 25 is also sensed, and a fault state is determined, taking account both of the sensed negative pressure and of the sensed operating states. This allows both the detection of a fault and its possible location.
