[Class 53] The electrolyte of a battery is absorbed in a vegetable substance which in its natural state contains at least 50 per cent by weight of water. Materials may be used such as cabbage leaves, leaves of trees, potatoes, apples, beetroots, stems and roots and they may be used as small pieces or in a finely-divided state or cut into slices. Water may be removed from the substance before use by treatment with alcohol and it may then be coated with a paste of starch and electrolyte which gelatinizes when the battery is heated. |
