The device has a control console (9) attached at an outer peripheral wall (7) of a dashpot (3) of a steering wheel (1). A monostable control element (10) is centrally arranged on the control console for adjusting a target speed of a motor car, and movable in two directions. Another control element (11) e.g. push-button, is arranged above or below the former control element for adopting a driven speed as the target speed and for activating a system for automatic distance and/or speed control. A third control element (12) interrupts a distance and/or speed control. An independent claim is also included for a steering wheel.
