<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compound which is useful to efficiently impart excellent characteristics such as high heat resistance, high crosslinking performance, a high refractive index, high transparency, and a low linear expansion rate. <P>SOLUTION: A compound having fluorene framework, which is represented by formula (1), is obtained by reacting fluorenes with a condensed polycyclic hydrocarbon having hydroxyl in the presence of an acid catalyst. In the formula, rings Z<SP POS="POST">1</SP>and Z<SP POS="POST">2</SP>represent condensed polycyclic hydrocarbon rings; R<SP POS="POST">1a</SP>, R<SP POS="POST">1b</SP>and R<SP POS="POST">2</SP>may be the same or different and represent a substituent; k1 and k2 may be the same or different and represent an integer of 0-4; m represents 0 or an integer of 1 or more; and n represents an integer of 1 or more.
