<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lithium ion battery which allows a large output, and which has a large effect in preventing the thermal shrinkage of a separator from spreading with an interior short circuit caused, and a method for manufacturing the lithium ion battery. <P>SOLUTION: The lithium ion battery comprises a positive electrode and a negative electrode (11) each having an electrode active material, a separator (12) for holding an electrolyte, and an adhesive resin layer which is used to bond at least one electrode of the positive and negative electrodes to the separator and has metal oxide fine particles. The adhesive resin layer includes a successive aggregate (5) of stake-shaped parts (1) which are laid out to make polygonal forms.
