The invention relates to a supporting ring for the coil head of an electrodynamical machine, which can be arranged radially within the coil head and coaxially to a rotational axis of a rotation body of the machine, and is dimensioned and designed such that it can be fastened in a rotationally fixed and displaceable manner in the direction of the rotational axis at least indirectly on the rotor body or on a component co-rotating with the same. The supporting ring is characterized by recesses, in particular indentations and/or through-holes, which are arranged essentially laterally of main force flow paths in the supporting ring, which occur during operation in the electrodynamical machine. The invention also relates to an electrodynamical machine which is equipped with the supporting ring according to the invention.
