<p>A thumbwheel 8 control for a rotary actuator 2 for example a vane that directs airflow in a vehicles heating system comprising a rotary damper 6 that includes a movable part 10 and a fixed part 12. A wheel 8 extends from the movable damper part 10 and can be turned manually about an axis relative to the fixed part 12. A detent mechanism may be included such as a ball 36 that is biased by a spring (38, Fig. 3) to run along a track (35, Fig. 4) in the wheel. The actuator 2 may comprise an axle 4 with which the thumbwheel 8 control engages and a rotary vane controlling the flow of air through a duct of the ventilation system of a vehicle. An arcuate grip 24 may be fitted to the rim of the thumbwheel 8 and may be made from rubber or another high friction material. The outer surface of the grip 24 may be knurled, shaped or textured.</p> |
