<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a heat pump system which achieves more cost reduction and more highly efficient operation than a conventional system. <P>SOLUTION: The heat pump system includes a compressor 11, an engine 31 installed via an engine side clutch 29 configured so as to be switched to a state that it is connected to the compressor 11 and a state that it is disconnected therefrom and a generator motor 35 installed at the engine 31 via the engine side clutch 29 and connected to the compressor 11. The compressor 11 is configured so as to be operated only by the engine 31, only by the generator motor 35, and by both the engine 31 and the generator motor 35.
