Disclosed is a method for identifying a storage device. The method includes: a main control server acquiring disk information about a storage device via a storage server; determining that there is a device identifier matching with the storage device according to the disk information, and then entering a monitoring state; otherwise, establishing a device identifier for the storage device, and ensuring the uniqueness thereof and relevance with the device, and then entering the monitoring state. Also disclosed is a system for identifying a storage device. By adopting the method and system in the present invention, the storage devices are identified uniformly, which is convenient for the uniform management of storage devices.
