<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a monitor for a portable electronic appliance as a lateral electric field type liquid crystal display device, that allows clear display even outdoor. <P>SOLUTION: A reflection electrode is provided in a lateral electric field type liquid crystal display device. The provision of the reflection electrode can achieve clear display outdoor because natural light can be efficiently reflected. Moreover, by providing the reflection electrode with unevenness, the reflectance can be increased.
