Techniques for deriving temporary identifiers (IDs) used to address specific user equipments (UEs) in a wireless communication network are described. At a network entity, a first ID assigned to a UE and additional information such as, e.g., a salt value and, optionally, a shared secret data for the UE, are transformed to obtain a second ID for the UE. The first ID and/or the shared secret data may be updated, e.g., whenever a signaling message is sent to the UE. A signaling message directed to the UE is generated based on the second ID and sent via a common channel. At the UE, a message is received via the common channel. The first ID and additional information such as, e.g., a salt value obtained from the received message and, optionally, a shared secret data for the UE, are transformed to obtain the second ID, which is used to determine whether the received message is intended for the UE.
|
