PURPOSE: A lighter is provided to protect hands of an operator from flames because the flames generated in a spark generating unit are blocked by a safety plate unit and do not reach to an operating piece. CONSTITUTION: A lighter(100) comprises a body unit(101), an operating piece(102), a spark generating unit(103), and a safety plate unit(104). Fuel is stored in a body unit. The operating piece is installed on the top of the body unit and operated. The spark generating unit is installed on the top of the body unit to be separated from the operating unit and generates flames with the fuel when the operating unit is operated. The safety plate unit is installed in between the operating unit and spark generating unit and moves up and down.
