<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface light source element with the small number of components capable of brightly illuminating an observation direction and improving image quality of screen images, even if enlarged or thinned. <P>SOLUTION: The surface light source element 10 of an edge light system includes a light guide plate 1 equipped with an emission surface 6 and a bottom surface 7 parallel with each other as well as side surfaces crossing them, and light sources 4 (4a to 4d) on side surfaces (incident end faces 8a) of the light guide plate 1. On the bottom surface 7 is a pattern (bottom surface pattern) equipped with V-shaped concave strips 9 and on the emission surface 6 is a pattern (emission surface pattern) equipped with trapezoid concave strips 3 as well as trapezoid convex strips 2. An absolute value of a gradient angle θt to an X-axis of the trapezoid convex strip 2 formed on the emission surface 6 is within a range of 30° to 63°, and a light volume of the light source 4 toward a Y-direction may be changed along an X-direction, free in independent control. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
