The ultrasonic waves emitted from each ultrasonic wave emitter (5a, 5b) are transmitted to the pen (3) via an ultrasonic wave transmission sheet (2) and the member (6) to be written on when the tip of a pen (3) touches a member (6) to be written on. Then, the ultrasonic waves are detected by means of the ultrasonic wave detector (8) disposed on the pen (3). The correlation between a signal based on the ultrasonic waves detected by means of the ultrasonic wave detector (8) and a plurality of independent pseudo random signals is calculated, and the coordinate of the tip of the pen (3) is detected on the basis of the obtained delayed time of each ultrasonic wave emitter (5a, 5b).
