The switching device has a switching unit (23) for transferring a switching request of driver to a transmission (21). A rotatably and slidably mounted control shaft (3) is provided with respect to gear housing axis (22) for performing a switching operation. A locking unit (1) is comprised of a detent contour portion (4) and an elastic latching element (5). The force applied on the control shaft is varied by the locking unit.
