831,526. Uses of luminescence. PHILIPS ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Feb. 19, 1957 [March 19, 1956], No. 8491/56. Class 39(1). A dose or dose-rate meter for X-rays, gamma-rays or betarays consists of a photoconductive crystal 1 such as cadmium sulphide surroundec by a phosphor whose light output is proportional to the dose-rate but independent of the energy of the incident radiation over the range 50-500 K.E.V. Such a phosphor may as is known, be a mixture of two materials having inverse light-energy characteristics the first material being calcium tungstate, thallium-activated sodium or potassium iodide or silver-activated zinc sulphide and the second being anthracene, p-tarphenyl, stilbene, diphenylacetylene, naphthalene, or tetraphenyl butadiene, the whole being embedded in polystyrene, polyvinyl toluene or polyacrylic acid or polyester resins. Specification 687,231 is referred to. |
