In the method, a ranking is determined among the battery modules (40-1,..., 40-n), and the battery modules are to be engaged in the supply of a desired output voltage of the battery module line (50-1, 50-2, 50-3) using said ranking, wherein the battery modules (40-1,..., 40-n) compare the respective battery module operating states among one another and determine the ranking on the basis of the comparison.
