PURPOSE: A light emitting diode and a light emitting diode package including a current spreading layer with an opening part are provided to increase external quantum efficiency by largely forming a surface of a light emitting structure. CONSTITUTION: A first electrode(130) is electrically connected to a first conductive semiconductor layer(112). A current blocking layer(160) is formed on a second conductive semiconductor layer(116). The current blocking layer is extended from between a current spreading layer(120) and the second conductive semiconductor layer to an opening part(122). A second electrode(140) is electrically connected to the second conductive semiconductor layer. The second electrode is extended from the current spreading layer to the opening part.
