PURPOSE: Stainless steel for a bipolar plate of a direct methanol fuel cell and a method of manufacturing the same are provided to manufacture a bipolar plate with a flow path through low-cost methods, such as press-forming and hydro-forming. CONSTITUTION: Stainless steel for a bipolar plate of a direct methanol fuel cell comprises C of 0.02 weight% or less(0 is exclusive), N of 0.02 weight% or less(0 is exclusive), Si of 0.4 weight% or less(0 is exclusive), Mn of 0.2 weight% or less(0 is exclusive), P of 0.04 weight% or less(0 is exclusive), S of 0.02 weight% or less(0 is exclusive), Cr of 25-34weight%, Mo of 0-0.1weight%, Cu of 0-1.5weight%, Ni of 0-0.8weight%, Ti of 0.5 weight% or less(0 is exclusive), Nb of 0.5 weight% or less(0 is exclusive), V of 0-1weight% or/and W of 0-4weight%, and Fe and inevitable impurities of the remaining amount. The contact resistance of the stainless steel after chemical surface improvement is 3-6mΩm^2(contact pressure: 140N/cm^2). The electric current density of the stainless steel after polarization experiment is 0.1μA/cm^2. A fuel cell comprises a bipolar plate(120) made of the stainless steel through press forming and hydroforming.
