<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a recording material and UV ink from being wasted due to a failure of an ultraviolet light irradiation unit and to prevent contamination of members configuring a recording apparatus caused by unhardened UV ink from arising. <P>SOLUTION: The recording apparatus includes: a recording head that discharges the UV ink onto the recording material; and the ultraviolet light irradiation unit that irradiates the discharged UV ink with the ultraviolet light so as to harden the UV ink. The recording apparatus further includes: a failure diagnostic unit that diagnoses a failure condition of the ultraviolet light irradiation unit; and a controller that controls operations of the recording head, the ultraviolet light irradiation unit and the failure diagnostic unit. The controller is configured to change the operation mode of the recording apparatus to a failure-state mode when the ultraviolet light irradiation unit has been diagnosed as a failure by the failure diagnostic unit. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
